Plyometrics is interpreted to mean "measurable increases", and was first introduced through track and field training.  Now all professional sports incorporate this type of training into their daily routines. 

Hence, most coaches know about plyometric training but, few understand or have the time to properly administer the true proper mechanics necessary to develop the skills and peaking times.  So, if you are wanting to be like the best, you must receive adequate training and education to develop the necessary skills.
